Pier 20 West and Pier 21 Wharf Reconstruction
St. John’s has been used as a port for fishing vessels for over 500 years. Harbourside was retained by the Port of St. John’s to provide engineering services for the Pier 20 West and Pier 21 Wharf Replacement and Upland Development project on the south side of St. John’s Harbour.
Margaree Wharf Reconstruction
Harbourside Engineering was engaged by Small Craft Harbours, Fisheries and Oceans Canada to develop the detailed design for the reconstruction of the finger pier wharf in Margaree. Given Harbourside’s extensive experience in marine engineering, they were the best choice among the consultants considered for the wharf reconstruction project.
Carter’s Point Wharf 410 Reconstruction
Carters Point Wharf was an existing creosote timber crib structure that was deteriorated and require replacement. Harbourside Engineering was hired by DFO Small Craft Harbours to design the demolition and reconstruction work.
Pointe-Sapin Shore Protection
Structures at the Pointe-Sapin wharf were deteriorated and required repairs or replacement to ensure safe passage and use of this harbour. Harbourside was hired by DFO SCH to develop a tender package to rehabilitate and extend the life of these structures, while protecting the ecologically sensitive areas around the harbour.
Ocho Rios Berth 2 Rehabilitation
Harbourside was hired by the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) to perform a condition assessment of the existing Berth 2 at the Ocho Rios Cruise Terminal in Jamaica. The berth was damaged by a cruise vessel in February 2024.
Georgetown Harbour Planning & Reconstruction
Harbourside Engineering Consultants was hired by DFO Small Craft Harbours to design a replacement structure for half of the Georgetown pier and a new containment cell to place all the excavated sediments form under the structure footprint. The project’s design phase was complete in 2018, and construction was completed in 2024.
Petit Cap Wharf Reconstruction and Expansion
Small craft harbours are the heart of the Maritimes. In 2021, Harbourside was hired by DFO Small Craft Harbours through a Standing Offer to develop two separate tender packages. These were created in order to design and replace the existing marginal wharf structure for the Petit-Cap Harbour, New Brunswick.
Botsford Launching Ramp Replacement
Botsford wharf is a fisheries harbour located in Murray Corner, New Brunswick. Harbourside Engineering Consultants was hired by DFO Small Craft Harbours to design a replacement for the existing launching ramp which was deteriorated and considered unsafe for use.
Blandford-Tancook Ferry Engineering Services
Harbourside was engaged by the Nova Scotia Public Works to act as the prime consultant in the design and construction of three new ferry wharf facilities. As the foremost Marine Engineers in Atlantic Canada, Harbourside Engineering was the most experienced and technically sound choice.
Little Harbour (L’Ardoise) Reconstruction
Little Harbour (L’Ardoise) is in Richmond County, NS. This core fishing harbour generally serves up to 25 commercial fishing vessels. Harbourside has provided engineering design and construction services for a number of projects in this harbour, but this project was focused on reconstruction of the Berlin-wall marginal wharf, on the west side of the harbour.
Carmanville Wharf Reconstruction
Harbourside were engaged by Small Craft Harbours, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (SCH) to develop a tender package to reconstruct the small craft harbour wharf in Carmanville, Newfoundland. This is a very active commercial fishing facility that acts as the Canadian Coast Guard’s primary port for the north coast of Newfoundland.
Westport Wharf Reconstruction
Harbourside was engaged as the primary consultant by Small Craft Harbours, Fisheries and Oceans Canada to complete the planning, design, and contract administration for the reconstruction of the wharf in Westport, Newfoundland.
Hampton Structures 404 & 603 Reconstruction
Hampton Harbour is a small craft harbour used primarily for commercial fishing vessels. The wharves were in overall poor condition, and the timber retaining structures appeared to have failed. Harbourside was hired by DFO Small Craft Harbours to design the reconstructed structures.
Feltzen South EII Reconstruction
Feltzen South wharf is in Lunenburg County, on the Atlantic Ocean. This wharf operates year-round and is primarily used by fishermen. Harbourside Engineering Consultants was hired by Public Works to design a replacement structure for the outer ell wharf.
Saint-Édouard-De-Kent Containment Cell
Due to environmental requirements, a new containment cell for dredge spoils was needed at the Saint-Édouard-de-Kent Harbour in Kent County, New Brunswick. Public Services and Procurement and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Small Craft Harbours, retained Harbourside Engineering for this project in 2021.
Pier C Terminal Expansion
From 2018 to 2020, Harbourside provided geotechnical and site services to the Halifax Port Authority related to the construction of the Pier C Extension for the Port of Halifax’s South End Container Terminal in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Port of Charlottetown Cruise Berth Expansion
Amongst many marine projects successfully completed by the team over the past 5 years, the work at the Port Charlottetown is arguably the most well rounded civil marine project that showcases the team’s exceptional experience in assessment, design, project management, and construction of marine works.
Darnley Wharf and Breakwater Reconstruction
For this project, Harbourside was engaged as the prime consultant to complete the design of a replacement structure for an existing marginal wharf. In addition, we were responsible for the partial replacement of an existing breakwater, the design of an abutment for the gangway to the floating docks and the design of a new anchorage for the floating docks.
Little Liscomb Wharf Reconstruction
The existing wharf at Little Liscomb was a partially demolished creosote timber structure. Harbourside was engaged by DFO to encapsulate the wharf in a new Berlin Wall structure with raised elevation and wider deck.
Wharf Strengthening and Rehabilitation, Makkovik, NL
In 2019, Harbourside was engaged to provide inspection services and renewed designs for the damaged Makkovik wharf in northern Labrador.
