Pointe-Sapin Shore Protection

Structures at the Pointe-Sapin wharf were deteriorated and required repairs or replacement to ensure safe passage and use of this harbour. Harbourside was hired by DFO SCH to develop a tender package to rehabilitate and extend the life of these structures, while protecting the ecologically sensitive areas around the harbour.

Halifax International Airport Stand-by Parking Lot

Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA) was in need of a new parking lot to accommodate vehicles waiting to pick up incoming passengers. Harbourside Transportation Consultants (HTC) was retained to complete a review of the available options for stand-by parking on the HIAA property and to develop a solution to provide the number of required spaces.

Little Harbour (L’Ardoise) Reconstruction

Little Harbour (L’Ardoise) is in Richmond County, NS. This core fishing harbour generally serves up to 25 commercial fishing vessels. Harbourside has provided engineering design and construction services for a number of projects in this harbour, but this project was focused on reconstruction of the Berlin-wall marginal wharf, on the west side of the harbour.

Cabot Shores: Malpeque Harbour Development

Lobster fishing and aquaculture vessels struggle daily to access Malpeque harbour in PEI. In 2019, a steering committee was formed to develop a long-term solution. The committee engaged Harbourside Engineering Consulting and MRSB Consulting Services Inc. to conduct an Economic Impact Study and New Wharf Design for Malpeque Harbour Authority.

Working as part of the Dexter Nova Alliance (DNA), Harbourside Engineering Group completed the design of all bridge structures, including inspection, rehabilitation, and replacement; geotechnical engineering design, soil testing, foundation testing, and inspection; and alignment and interchange designs.

Saint-Édouard-De-Kent Containment Cell

Due to environmental requirements, a new containment cell for dredge spoils was needed at the Saint-Édouard-de-Kent Harbour in Kent County, New Brunswick. Public Services and Procurement and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Small Craft Harbours, retained Harbourside Engineering for this project in 2021.

In 2020 Harbourside carried out a geotechnical investigation to aid with design and construction of the new container examination facility. Later, Harbourside would also be contracted to undertake the design, paving, and marking of the lot surrounding the facility.

Darnley Wharf and Breakwater Reconstruction

For this project, Harbourside was engaged as the prime consultant to complete the design of a replacement structure for an existing marginal wharf. In addition, we were responsible for the partial replacement of an existing breakwater, the design of an abutment for the gangway to the floating docks and the design of a new anchorage for the floating docks.

Hall’s Harbour Wharf Replacement

Harbourside Engineering Consultants was hired to design a replacement structure for Hall’s Harbour wharf: a ground-out fishing wharf that is also heavily used by tourists during the summer and fall. Hall’s Harbour is also a popular location for observing tidal changes of the Bay of Fundy. Due to structural conditions, the existing wharf at this facility was considered unsafe for use.

The Maritime Link Project involved the construction of hundreds of kilometers of power transmission infrastructure in order to allow Nova Scotia to import renewable energy from Muskrat Falls in Labrador. This project took shape after engaging with Mi’kmaq stakeholder, various environmental studies, and multiple surveys.
