McNamara Drive Roundabout Design
To improve the traffic flow through Paradise, Newfoundland, a roundabout was planned for the intersection of Topsail Road and McNamara Drive. Harbourside Transportation Consultants provided the design of the new roundabout, which would also grant access to the new Intermediate School in Paradise. The work entailed upgrades to the intersection, the access road, and the services to the new school. The design and construction of the McNamara roundabout helped improve Paradise’ overall road networks and provides accessibility to the new Intermediate School.
Paradise Intermediate School Roundabout Design
Harbourside provided the detailed design of the new roundabout on McNamara Drive for the Paradise Intermediate School in Newfoundland. The work included upgrades to the intersection and the access road, and servicing to the new school in the form of water main installation, storm water collection and conveyance, and wastewater collection. Harbourside created the detailed design of single lane roundabout at the intersection of McNamara Drive and new access road, with the provision of expansion to a multi lane roundabout for the future.
Cornwall Interchange Design
The Prince Edward Island Government requested funding from Ottawa to redirect the Trans-Canada Highway around the town of Cornwall, Prince Edward Island, in 2016. Harbourside Transportation Consultants provided consulting design services for the new Trans-Canada Highway bypass, including two roundabouts, connector roads, interchange ramps, and roadways approaching, and in between, the roundabouts. The development of the Cornwall interchange and roundabouts has allowed for heavier traffic to navigate the Cornwall area with ease.
Galway Road Network Design
Harbourside Transportation Consultants was hired in 2015 to provide the consulting design services for the creation of three multi-lane roundabouts in the Galway development of St. John’s, Newfoundland. The developer, two municipalities, the Provincial Department of Transportation, and a municipal services consultant all had to be kept apprised of the development. The Galway development is now accessible through its Mount Pearl connection, improving transportation throughout the city.
City of Corner Brook Traffic Signal Systems
The City of Corner Brook, Newfoundland, retained Harbourside Transportation Consultants in November of 2017 to complete a comprehensive evaluation of the city’s traffic signal systems. The systems consisted of fifteen signalized intersections and five signalized pedestrian crossings. The goal of the study was to document existing conditions at each traffic signal system and to recommend upgrades as required. This helped inform the city on next steps for modernizing roadways and improving accessibility throughout the city.
Karwood Market Area Traffic Study
Harbourside Transportation Consultants was engaged by the Town of Paradise, Newfoundland, to prepare a Traffic Study determining required road network improvements for the Karwood Market and Octagon Pond development areas over both a five-year and ten-year planning period. Harbourside’s scope of work included information gathering and data collection, trip generation and distribution, existing capacity analysis, conceptualizing the road network and improvements, future capacity analysis, and active transportation considerations.
Shannon Park Development Traffic Study
Harbourside Transportation Consultants was retained by the Canada Lands Company (CLC) in 2016 to prepare a traffic study for the redevelopment of Shannon Park in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Initial meetings took place with the CLC and the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) to confirm the scope of work, and Harbourside reviewed the base information and gathered traffic counts at eight intersections in the study area. We developed a series of recommendations for improvements to accommodate the redevelopment.
Mount Pearl Integrated Transportation Study Phase 1B
One year following Phase 1A, the City of Mount Pearl engaged Harbourside Transportation Consultants to complete the second phase of the Integrated Transportation Study, with a goal of examining the immediate and long-term transportation infrastructure needs in and around the city. Phase 1B was intended to collect and update the information that would be required to complete the Integrated Transportation Plan, and all data points had to be easily interpreted by others.
Bedford West Sub Area 10 Traffic Study
As part of the development application for Bedford West Sub Area 10 to quantify the transportation impacts of a proposed roundabout development, Harbourside Transportation Consultants completed a traffic impact study in 2015, evaluating traffic operations at Highway 102 and the Kearney Lake Road Interchange. The study identified existing operational problems at the Kearney Lake Road interchange and recommended that two signalized intersections be converted to roundabouts to accommodate long-term growth.
Mount Pearl Integrated Transportation Study Phase 1A
The City of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, and surrounding areas have seen significant growth in development, population and infrastructure in recent years, resulting in altered traffic patterns. This growth was anticipated to impact intersections and roadways within the city. Considering this, the City of Mount Pearl engaged Harbourside Transportation Consultants to complete an integrated Transportation Study, with a goal of examining the immediate and long-term transportation infrastructure needs in and around the city.
Blackmarsh Road Roundabout
In 2015, Harbourside Transportation Consultants did the detailed design for one of the first roundabouts in the city of St. John’s, Newfoundland. The goal was to accommodate this new piece of modern highway infrastructure in the city. Harbourside collected data points such as traffic flow and cost considerations prior to presenting the detailed design of the Blackmarsh Road roundabout. This redevelopment improved the safety of the intersection and welcomes citizens and residents into the West End along Captain Whalen Drive.
