Sections of the DVP and Gardiner were closed from Friday, Jan. 30, at 11 p.m. to Monday, Feb. 2, at 5 a.m. to accommodate critical construction work for the new Lower Don Bridge that will carry Ontario Line trains across the Don River and adjacent highway lanes.

Construction will reach a milestone this weekend on the Lower Don Crossing, a new bridge for Ontario line 3 that is set to be slid into its permanent position over the river and the Don Valley Parkway. Harbourside Engineering has been acting as the erection engineering specialist on this monumental project.

A recent project managed by Harbourside Project Management has been featured in the Engineer’s Nova Scotia magazine. The ESL medium weight shock machine helps to test the strength and durability of naval equipment.

CCE — Canadian Consulting Engineer and the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Canada (ACEC-Canada) handed out the 56th annual Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards at a celebration in Ottawa on Thursday, Oct. 24. The top prize, the Schreyer, went to Harbourside Engineering and gbi for the Champlain Bridge Deconstruction project in Montreal.

Harbourside Engineering Group, recently expanded its capabilities with the acquisition of W S Langley Concrete & Materials Technology. The acquired company’s president, Wilbert ‘Wib’ S. Langley, P.Eng., has more than 50 years’ experience in concrete materials engineering. He has consulted for the Halifax Harbour Bridges, Confederation Bridge, Gordie Howe International Bridge, William R Bennett Bridge and Hoover Dam Bridge.

PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY — The Ontario government has completed major improvements to the Bay of Quinte Skyway Bridge that serves as an important connection to Highway 401 for communities in Prince Edward County and hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit wine country every year.

CBC — After two years of waiting, Londoners are now able to drive on the newly reconstructed Victoria Bridge over the Thames River.

The bridge located on Ridout Street had been closed since 2022 for reconstruction, but the City of London announced cyclists and pedestrians were allowed to cross over in April.

he four new bridges at the Port Lands in Toronto were an engineering feat and all were installed using different methods and techniques. The bridges are part of the Port Lands Flood Protection Project, led by Waterfront Toronto, which created a new mouth for the Don River in the middle of the Port Lands between the Ship Channel and the Keating Channel, as well as the foundations of a new urban island, Villiers Island.

CBC- 3rd largest bridge in N.S. is a vital link for traffic heading to Newfoundland by ferry. A 2018-19 inspection of the bridge by Harbourside Engineering Consultants gave the various parts of the bridge a rating using the national bridge inventory rating system.

Canadian Consulting Engineer — The 2018 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Engineering in Nova Scotia has been awarded to Halifax Harbour Bridges, along with COWI North America and Harbourside Engineering Consultants for the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge Suspended Spans Deck Replacement project, also known as “The Big Lift.”

The twinning project began with the construction of the two South River crossings — steel box girder designs, each on three piers.  General contractor was Nova Construction Co. Ltd. of Antigonish and Harbourside Engineering was the designer.
