Young Engineer: Nishtha Shah

For today’s staff-highlight, we’d like you to meet Nishtha Shah.

Nishtha is a 4th year engineering student at Dalhousie university. She began her co-op with Harbourside back in May. Since that time, Nishtha has settled in very well with the team. Below, she comments on her experiences with Harbourside so far:

Nishtha Shah is a 4th year engineering coop student at Harbourside.

"It's only an 8-month co-op, but already I'm hoping for an extension to 16 months!" She states, commenting on her positive experiences with the group so far. "There's constant support here. This is a very important thing."

As a co-op, Nishtha had the chance to work alongside other younger engineers, creating a sense of camaraderie. She has also been brought onboard some truly massive projects to learn from the senior engineers first-hand. The Kapuskasing Gantry, the demolition of the Molson facility in Montreal, and the Etobicoke Towers project have all helped to challenge Nishtha, and encourage her to grow. "It’s not just office work; I’ve visited multiple sites where I was able to place the paper drawings into a broader context."

"People will often praise you for the things you KNOW. Here they will support you with the things you DON’T... If you have the confidence to ask questions, you'll transition [to co-op] smoothly!"

Nishtha Shah poses in front of the Harbourside sign in the welcome space of the Dartmouth office.

Our preference is that co-ops be extended to their maximum length. This increases the likelihood of seeing a project from beginning to completion and offers more field experience that a classroom cannot provide.

We look forward to seeing what Nishtha will accomplish during her time with us, and hope she continues to feel supported throughout her stay with us here at Harbourside!
