Pier 20 West and Pier 21 Wharf Reconstruction
Harbourside was retained by the Port of St. John’s to provide engineering services for the Pier 20 West and Pier 21 Wharf Replacement and Upland Development project on the south side of St. John’s Harbour, Newfoundland. The primary objective of the project was the complete replacement of the existing wharves, the demolition of the existing building at the site, and the development of the upland area. Harbourside is providing contract administration and full-time onsite inspection services throughout the construction period.
Team Gushue Highway Interchange Study
Harbourside Transportation Consultants was retained by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Transportation and Works to complete a detailed traffic analysis on the Team Gushue Highway and the existing Pitts Memorial Drive and Robert E. Howlett Memorial Drive interchange. Work began with a review of past transportation planning documents, models, and traffic studies followed by stakeholder consultations to identify regional growth and development projections. The end goal was to develop alternatives for connecting these and ancillary roadways.
Memorial University Area Traffic Study
In 2016, the City of St. John’s, Memorial University, and the Provincial Department of Community Services in Newfoundland partnered together to undertake the Memorial University Area Traffic Study. The goal was to examine the longer-term transportation infrastructure and ensure that the road and pedestrian networks in and around Memorial University can continue to accommodate its growing population. Harbourside developed the unique methodology used during the traffic study, which had to be thorough, detailed, and future-focused.
Blackmarsh Road Roundabout
In 2015, Harbourside Transportation Consultants did the detailed design for one of the first roundabouts in the city of St. John’s, Newfoundland. The goal was to accommodate this new piece of modern highway infrastructure in the city. Harbourside collected data points such as traffic flow and cost considerations prior to presenting the detailed design of the Blackmarsh Road roundabout. This redevelopment improved the safety of the intersection and welcomes citizens and residents into the West End along Captain Whalen Drive.
