Young Engineer: Bryan Rusagara

Bryan began his first co-op term with Harbourside in early 2024 in our Dartmouth office. He liked the experience so much, he came back again!

"It's been a very stimulating experience. They encourage learning here. When you come as a co-op student, you realize how little you know, but EVERYONE is happy to help and answer your questions."

As a student, Bryan has been given the chance to learn by being part of some technically challenging projects, like the Kapuskasing gantry design, and the Musquodoboit temporary bridge abutments.

"It's all so exciting. Right now, I'm doing shop drawings, and a few weeks ago I was doing abutments. Before that I was working on retaining walls. It's hard to pick my favourite thing. Do I have to choose just one?"

As Bryan continues his co-op, he has had a chance to sample a little bit of everything Harbourside does…which is a lot! Our structural engineering consultants specialize in bridges, marine structures, and heavy civil projects. At the other end of the office, our Transportation Engineers focus on traffic analysis and highway design! Meanwhile, the Geotechnical division supports both with ground engineering and materials testing.

For anyone interested in starting their career at Harbourside, Bryan had this to say:

"Starting anywhere is intimidating, but don't be afraid to ask questions. This is the place to ask questions."
