Running the Office
We’ve referred to the fact that our Dartmouth office is a pretty sporty group, but they are not the only ones…
With the weather improving, some of our favourite outdoor events have returned. Notably, it was once again time the Bluenose Marathon Purple Cow 5k. Last year, we had an impressive showing of engineers, drafters, and support staff. This year, with the Dartmouth team having its very own running club, attendance on May 16th event went through the roof!
BUT BEFORE THAT…Our PEI office showed us the footwork of their own engineering team during the Charlottetown Airport YYG Runway Run on May 9th!
The Charlottetown Airport YYG Runway Run
This particular 5km run is special. Participants get to run on the actual airport runway! That means there are no hills to contend against, or rough trails. Since runways are level and spacious, the event can accommodate people of all fitness levels, and even strollers!
That also makes it the perfect team bonding event. People can run, hustle, or walk the 5km circuit and enjoy themselves without worry.
Our engineers and support team from the PEI office arrived early for some pre-run warmups (See Haley’s patented “airplane stretch”). Decked out in matching Harbourside gear, we were “off to the races”. To add to the occasion, as we were also celebrating Miko’s birthday!
Despite the significance of the day, Calvin MacAulay didn’t go easy on him, coming in with the fastest time of our island office team at 20:36. WHOOSH.
Bluenose Marathon Purple Cow 5k
One week later, our Dartmouth team assembled on the Halifax commons, bright and early for a good warmup, stretch, and an obligatory group photo. Although we admit we have a competitive streak, most of us were there for fun. Many had been training for months to be able to participate. For some, it was their first ever 5km run ever!
One of the reasons we like doing the 5km is that it’s so accessible. Whether you’re running at top speed, taking periodic breaks, or going at a walking pace the whole way, it’s something we can all do as a team.
Everyone can enjoy it in their own way. This helps us all stay active and build strong team bonds together. Those who want to embrace their competitive side can, while those who prefer a more leisurely pace are still celebrated for finishing
…That being said, we’d be remiss if we did not mention Dartmouth’s own Marc Tarling and his scorching fast time of 19:34!
Our engineers will se you on race day next year!
