May Long-Weekend BBQ
Our Dartmouth office tries to find as many reasons to use its BBQ as possible. The May long-weekend made for a great excuse.
Grill-Masters Todd Menzies and Phil Sullivan from the HGC were in charge of feeding our hungry crew. Thankfully the weather cooperated for just long enough! With our group growing as fast as it has, this was a great opportunity to get to know some of the new faces in the Dartmouth office. It was also a chance to take a little breather on Friday before the long weekend. We know there’s work to do, but it’s also important to make time for the team.
The work our engineers do really does require a collective effort from everyone. It's important to make sure that each person who joins the Harbourside Group feels like they have a role to play. Little events here-and-there give us a chance to socialize away from our desks and help us make stronger connections. With such a big emphasis on collaborative teamwork, having get-togethers like the BBQ really puts that into focus.
Team Diversity
BBQs can be tricky for larger teams. As we continue to grow, we will inevitably end up with multiple dietary restrictions we'll have to consider. With these in mind, regular burgers and hotdogs won’t always fit the bill. That’s why it’s important to account for our team's diversity in the planning, purchasing, and grill set-up of the BBQ! Gluten-free buns, vegetarian options, halal options, and other alternatives were all available to those who needed them. Each option was also grilled with consideration on its own grill (thanks Todd!), so no one had to worry.
Overall, it was a fun and relaxing time for the team, and something to look forward to on a Friday afternoon.
