CANS 2026 Women in Construction Happy Hour

Everyone loves Happy Hour at Nine Locks.

Earlier this month, The Construction Association of Nova Scotia hosted an event at Nine Locks brewery in Dartmouth, sponsored by PCL construction. The 2026 Women in Construction Happy Hour!

If only our office was nearby… Oh wait!

Lucky for Harbourside, our Dartmouth location has lived next to Nine Locks for quite some time. In fact, we were neighbours long before they expanded. With such an event being held right next door to us, how could we say no?

Unsurprisingly, there were many familiar faces in the crowd. Nova Scotia is known for how interconnected it is. Still, the event was a great opportunity to introduce our younger engineers and technicians to the female leadership across the local construction community.

She comes to Harbourside Engineering from CBCL limited with many years of experience under her belt. We’re so happy she was able to come to this event and meet so many wonderful women from our office and outside it.

Engineering and construction are deeply interconnected fields. Events such as this are important for highlighting the impact women have within these respective industries. Women have been, and continue to be, key players despite being underrepresented within the skilled trades and engineering sectors. Events like this showcase not only the breadth of expertise that women bring to engineering and construction, but help “pave” the way for future tradeswomen, tradespeople, and engineers. (A little construction pun).

At Harbourside, there is an important emphasis placed on the role of female leadership, and women in engineering. Our partnership team features some of the most talented female engineers in the country (though we may be biased). Every day they prove something fundamental that we’ve known for a long time: that women make kick-ass engineers.

Victoria Kennedy, Lydia Ayalew and Brittany Cunnigham from Harbourside Engineering sit with Meggie MacMichael from the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency during the CAN NS Women in Construction happy Hour at Nine Locks brewing.

As we work to close the gap in gender representation across STEM in Atlantic Canada, you can trust we’ll keep making appearances at events like these. Not just because we love Nine Locks, either, but because we know how important it is to be seen in these roles.

We are so happy that this happened in our neck of the woods, and that we were able to attend.

Come back any time!
