We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to lead our accounting operations and ensure the financial integrity of our organization. This role is pivotal in managing financial reporting, overseeing accounting staff, and driving process improvements across multiple business units. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong foundation in accounting principles, financial analysis, and compliance.
The Harbourside Group of Companies, comprised of Harbourside Engineering Consultants, Harbourside Transportation Consultants, Harbourside Geotechnical Consultants, Harbourside Project Management, Harbourside Industrial Group and W.S. Langley Concrete & Materials Technology is a full service heavy civil infrastructure design firm with office locations in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Stratford, Prince Edward Island, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Stoney Creek, Ontario.
This position is based out of either our Stratford, Prince Edward Island office or our Dartmouth, NS office depending on the preference and suitability of the selected candidate. The Controller will support operations across all Harbourside locations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Oversee full-cycle accounting operations, including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting.
Manage the financial aspects of projects: setup, invoicing, tracking, and closure.
Issue monthly financial reports for up to six business units and provide insights on key performance indicators.
Maintain and improve accounting infrastructure, leveraging technology for efficiency.
Develop and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure compliance.
Provide financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and operational planning.
Supervise and mentor accounting personnel, ensuring high standards of accuracy and timeliness.
Serve as the primary point of contact for accounting services across all business sectors.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial operations.
Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations and reporting requirements.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
CPA Required.
Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management.
Proven experience managing accounting teams and overseeing multi-unit financial operations.
Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage).
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities with a customer-service mindset.
Experience in financial forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
