Harbourside’s Role

Harbourside oversaw the assessment of various structures. These included steel sheet pile (SSP) walls, SSP caissons and concrete cribs. Following the assessment, HEC completed repair prioritization and initial cost estimates for a variety of repairs required around the facility.

Unique Challenges

Projects that involve underwater inspections carry their own set challenges. This can be mitigated in part with careful planning, and adherence to safety protocols. Still, there are always inherent risks involved with diving.

Social Impact

The Caribou Ferry terminal is an important access point between Prince Edward Island and the mainland. Between May and December, shipping trucks, tourists, and locals all rely on the smooth operations of the ferry. The continuous upgrades and maintenance to the Caribou facility ensures this service remains uninterrupted, and in good health for years to come.
