MacKay and Macdonald Bridges: Forensic Investigation and Rehabilitation of Concrete Foundations
The two bridges spanning Halifax Harbour, the Macdonald and the Mackay Bridges, are some of the busiest sections of roadway in the province. As such, their continued maintenance and upkeep is essential for transportation throughout the region.
Halifax Harbour Bridges : Annual Inspections
Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) owns and operates two long span suspension toll bridges, the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge and the A. Murray MacKay Bridge. Harbourside Engineering Consultants has completed annual structural inspections of both suspension bridge structures, along with a variety of ancillary bridge (multi span steel box girder, rigid frame, multi-span voided post tensioned concrete slabs) and retaining structures (cast-in-place cantilever, bin-wall) from 2010 to present.

THE BIG LIFT: Angus L. MacDonald Redecking Project
The continued operation of the Macdonald bridge is essential to life in Halifax. As one of the main access points between Halifax and Dartmouth, much of the Halifax Regional Municipality revolves around the proper functioning and traffic flow of the Harbour bridges.
Macdonald Bridge Foundation Retrofit
As part of the deck replacement of the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge, the existing bridge elements to remain in service were analyzed for the new loading conditions.
Ramp 9 Structure Demolition and Overload Analysis, Halifax Approach
This project entailed the detailed demolition design of a post-tensioned concrete box structure in the North end of Halifax, adjacent to the MacKay Bridge (one of the two large suspension bridges crossing Halifax Harbour).
